Why aren't balances accurate in ATM MACHINES
Feb 19 2009, 1:39 PM EST
I am a banking customer. I own a small business and have credit card merchant services that are irregularly posted to my account. When traveling I use ATM's to check my balances. I recently withdrew money from my business account based on the balance shown on the ATM. When I returned home I found that the credit cards had not yet been posted to my acct and my balance was in the negative. I was then hit with a substantial NSF fee. Why don't the banks insure the accuracy of the ATM companies or is this just another trick to scam customers out of their hard earned money?

ATM machines run on networks that are separate from the bank's internal network. Many ATM machines are operated by entities that are independent of your bank. The information available to the ATM network may only be updated once a day, so items that post during the day may not appear until the following day. Do you find this valuable? |
